On my iTunes Top 25 Most Played songlist, Sigur Ros' Fyrsta (original) wins by a landslide with a total playcount of 47 times.  Let me just add that it's a total playcount from just one day!  And I'm not finished yet.  Sure--it's sad, and depressing, and the fact that I like to turn off all the lights while listening to it makes it almost creepy.  But still, the experience is not quite level to the time my brother, sister, cousin and I decided--with a sick, sadistic frame of mind--to play a game of hide-and-seek making use of the expanse of our parents' two-story home, with all the windows and curtains shut, whilst blindfolded and listening to Gregorian Chant.  I won't even mention how old we were at the time because it's really too embarrassing to admit and go into detail.  I'm beginning to get paranoid that I overestimate the thickness of our apartment walls, and that my neighbors downstairs will eventually get a broomstick and pound on the ceiling telling me "For god's sake turn it off already!"

[ music | The Stills (again) - Still in Love Song ]

One of my new favorite pastimes is sitting by the cable cars where tourists usually gravitate and talk about how beautiful the city is, and then watching them gaze in fright and confusion as a crazy guy on the street tries to sell them a tourist guide book (that you can probably get free at some information booth) before violently throwing it to the floor while yelling obscenities and something about the CIA.

I also love that during work random things--like, say, a long-ass parade of bicyclists dressed in various costumes (think Flaming Lips show on bicycle) coming down our street in order to promote other modes of transportation and causing cars to back up for miles--just happen.  They even had three or more DJs with their sound systems hooked onto the back of their bicycles.

[ music | SSION - Who's Your Favorite, Baby? ]

Is there a better way to spend your Sunday afternoon than to skip out entirely on going to church and instead attending the Castro Street Fair surrounded by hot flamboyantly gay guys dressed in drag and wearing assless pants with its own conspicuous penis leather-covering? Despite missing a performance by Mandonna, I think the fair was still well worth the three-dollar donation, especially since I got a chance to meet the beautifully adorned Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

Some pictures... )

[ music | Beck - The Golden Age ]

The other night Nick told me and my sister that on his way to our apartment he had seen a woman passed out on the hood of someone's car. A couple of hours later, on our way to dinner, we happened to pass by that same car and saw that the woman had left a big ass dent on the hood. Now, I thought that was hilarious. But I really laughed my ass off when I saw a post on craigslist entitled "Looking for the bastard who did his hoochie on my hood."

Also, will someone please pick up this free couch, skate ramp, and trampoline to assure me that they're not going to waste?! Please!

[ music | Death Cab for Cutie - 405 ]

Oh Shit. Now my curiosity in the identities of my downstairs neighbors is piqued. I woke up at around 5am to a loud consistent knocking which I thought at first to be someone at our front door. But the noise was obviously coming from downstairs, just below the room my sister and I share, so I thought maybe the neighbors were either hanging things on the wall or building Ikea furniture which is not entirely ridiculous since my cousin has been known to do that at ungodly hours. Then it stopped just as abruptly as it had started, and I heard two people moaning and groaning. Then commenced the knocking. And at that point everything made sense to me.

[ music | Dance Disaster Movement - I Got The Sass ]

Before this past weekend I had never played Texas Hold 'Em, which explains why I suck so badly at it. But my sister came home last weekend and encouraged us all (me, my brother, and my cousins) to learn it and play it until the ungodly hours of the morning--for two nights in a row! Surprisingly, I'm not quite sick of it yet. In fact, I've been craving it, trying desperately to think of friends in the general area who might have a slight interest in playing with me. I need my daily fix of Texas Hold 'Em. Damn it.

I hear Eric's in town. I think the guy looks damn good with a cigarette in his mouth. ) He just needs to get rid of that silly grin on his face. OhemgeeeeEricjustkiddingIloveyou!

[ music | Tussle - Disco D'oro ]

There is an Indian restaurant on Telegraph in Berkeley, CA that serves the best naan and curry, and it’s aptly named Naan & Curry. Alright, so my words may have no merit since that’s the only Indian food place I’ve ever eaten at but, mark my words, it’s effing good. The guy usually taking orders always maintains an air of indifference toward customers and makes it a point to let you know you’re wasting his time. I’ve actually taken an unhealthy liking to that guy and am disgruntled when someone else takes my order.

Eric accompanied me in smoking my first cigarette. We coughed together and hacked up a lung.

I SAW MY FAVORITE HOMELESS GUY AGAIN! He makes me so unbelievably happy. He said to me, on separate occasions:

“Don’t ever get married. You’ve already suffered enough.”
and
“Ah, the almighty college students. May I bless you with avocado pearls.”

On my last day in Berkeley, my sister took me and Tram to Thai Temple, an outdoor Thai food place that looks like somebody’s backyard. The proper etiquette for eating at Thai Temple is that you have to buy tokens in order to pay for your food. It was an interesting experience.

I nearly missed my flight back home that morning! In fact, I think I may have been the last person to board the plane, so I had no choice but to sit in the only unoccupied seat next to the emergency exit door. Three gossip-driven women sat across from me, each engaged in their self-help books, noting certain pages as significant and exchanging pseudo-intellectual opinions on quotations that applied to their lives. I can never remember how to put on an airplane seatbelt. As I struggled with it for the umpteenth time, the old man sitting to my left stared at me. Watched me. Appearing to be torn between the decision of playing the grandfather role and helping me out or playing the role of ‘grumpy old man.’ He stuck to the latter. That made me smile.

[ music | The Walkmen - Wake Up ]

There are actually a lot of things that have happened lately that I'd like to update on but won't because, as much as I enjoy opening my e-mail inbox to a new LJ comment (because, you know, that's what I live for!), I prefer certain people not to know certain things. And this means I'm completely fucked come update time because virtually everyone I know has a link to this page or has a livejournal of their own. But I really really really desperately want to write everything down on this damned thing. Curses! I ought to stop disseminating links to this page all over the world wide web.

How's that for an update?

The guy who sits in front of me in my Philosophy class is hot as hell.

Tall, skinny white guy who exudes way too much confidence and shows no sign of concern for anyone else.

*Swoon*

I think I'll content myself with just staring at the back of his head. Or one of these days, I'll just allow my impulses to take over, and I'll reach out and run my fingers through his tousled, wispy hair.

I submitted a half-assed essay. It's only a rough draft but half-assed nonetheless. I am so ashamed! I'll undoubtedly lose sleep over this.

[ music | Seksu Roba - Inter-Sexual Overdrive ]

I am, without a doubt, the most terrible, awful, inconsiderate, (insert negative adjective here) friend ever, as was made evident last night when my best best best best friend of six years was talking to me on the phone and I fell asleep! She was talking about--good lord, I can't even admit to having remembered since I was falling in and out of consciousness. But the next thing I knew I woke up to a long bout of silence and then heard a "hello??!!" That was my cue to fully wake up and apologize insanely. It was the heat, I tell you--the heat!--in addition to the comfort of my bed, the lulling buzz of my electric fan, and the fact that I just got home from work. Combine those four and you get the equivalent of a potent sleeping potion.

Whenever I write or talk about being sleepy, I can't help but think of the word "soporific" thanks to that Emma Thompson movie whose name escapes me at the moment.

Anyhow, in other, more vain issues, I need your trusted opinions on the age-old question: Should I keep it long or chop it off?

[ music | The Sounds ]

Adrian ([info]nocigarettes) sent me a medium-sized package of love all the way from Oakland, CA, in the form of:

  • a chinese yo yo (I think that's what they're called)

  • a postcard from San Francisco

  • a pretty red bracelet

  • uh, three plastic fish in orange, yellow, and green? Beautiful!

  • a tag from Aardvarks

  • an sfstation.com business card

  • a wasteland business card

  • a Volt zine that I have yet to read

  • a mixed cd that says "I <3 U" all around the cd

  • photographs of Mr. Adrian and one of Ms. Karen O.

  • an 'admit one' ticket

  • a picture of Macauly Culkin during the Home Alone years

  • a newspaper photo cutout of the Chinese New Year parade in SF

  • a stick of Juicy Fruit

  • a stellastarr pin

  • a pad of neon green post-its

  • candy hearts that say 'call me' and 'miss you'

  • and this:

I love this boy to death!

[ music | Travis - Baby One More Time ]

I must have been more discombobulated last night than usual from lack of sleep. I knew I had to be at work the next morning by 10am, but I checked my schedule again for confirmation and was ecstatic to find that I didn't have to arrive until 11am, giving me an extra hour of sleep. Next morning, at exactly 10am, I woke up, was compelled to check my work schedule again, and found that I was indeed supposed to be in by 10am. Luckily, it was my manager's day off.

For the past two nights I've seen movies that contain so much gratuitous sex and nudity scenes. More tits and ass than anything else. But, eh, watching them with friends is always fun, and a little uncomfortable if you're the only girl. Speaking of which, I think in the upcoming Friday night we're all going to Spearmint Rhino, an apparently high-class strip club. You have to experience these things at least once in your lifetime, I guess.

[ music | Sigur Ros - Olsen Olsen ]

I am done trying to invite people to go out. Nobody makes a fucking effort.

Sometimes I'm just so tempted to make one of the many creepy guys I attract my boyfriend, just so I'd have company. But that would be cruel. And I'm not being paranoid or too selective when I say creepy. Trust me on that.

Better news. I'm going to the first day of Coachella!

RADIOHEAD
The Pixies
Kraftwerk
Wilco
(International) Noise Conspiracy, The Rapture, Desert Sessions (possibly featuring PJ Harvey, possibly not), Heiroglyphics, Kinky, Stereolab, Future Sound of London, ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, Peretz, Death Cab for Cutie, Laurent Garnier, LCD Soundsystem, Living Legends, Sander Kleinenberg, The Black Keys, The Sounds, Howie Day, Junior Senior, Mark Farina, Moving Units, Sahara Hotnights, Electric Six, The Stills, Seb Fontaine, 22-20's, Juana Molina, Phantom Planet, Dios, Jem, Q and Not U, Erase Errata, The Section Quartet, DJ Icon

It would be nice to go on the second day too, but I'm already satisfied with day 1.

Does anyone else think of the Olsen twins when you hear Sigur Ros' Olsen Olsen?

I hate buying gas you thought was cheap enough to gloat about, then driving a block further and discovering an even cheaper gas station.

Last night was The Shins at the Henry Fonda Theater! I went! Yay!...by myself. booooo. Thank God they rocked.

I watched the movie Spellbound and nearly ripped my hair out rooting for Harry. Actually, I liked all the kids being documented which made it all the more stressful. If I had been a national spelling bee contestant, I'm sure my nerves would've gotten the best of me, and I would've been like "Banns?!?!...Uuuuhhhh...I quit!"

Went to my cousin's house in Pasadena today because I was bored out of my mind at home. We watched ABBA videos! I love ABBA! You do not want to hear or be anywhere near me when I attempt to sing their songs because my voice cannot handle the pitch they sing in. Whenever I hear ABBA, I am reminded of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and Muriel's Wedding. I have to watch those again, soon.

Oh look, how fitting:

You're RALPH! AKA, Bernie Bassenger!

Damn right about wanting to settle down with the right man! But it can't be more wrong about being sick of ABBA.

Holy crap! I just found a quiz for Strictly Ballroom, one of my favorite films! )

[ music | ABBA! ]

Years later and I still find myself stupidly head over heels in love with Alex P. Keaton.

I have $13 I can spend between now and Friday afternoon. $10 of that will probably go towards gas so I can get to work. I'll find some way or another to eat, maybe sneak out a few sandwiches from work (Quizno's) when my manager's not looking. Today was one of our big biannual audits, wherein someone from the company--usually an elderly nazi-like woman--comes into our store and breathes down our neck, marking points off for every little thing she could possibly find wrong. My nerves were on end for three and a half hours.

I'm going to see The Shins on Friday night! If you're there, pull me aside and say hey, because I'm going alone.

My other $3 will go to coffee at the coffee shop.

Hey!

[ music | Modest Mouse - Broke ]

My family and I haven't set foot inside a grocery store in a while. I don't know what the hell we eat at home.

I finally got to register for classes this morning! I didn't get the schedule I had in mind, but at least I have enough units to be considered a full-time student. For now I'm taking Philosophy, English, Japanese, and Astronomy. Hopefully Astronomy will be as interesting as I imagine it to be. I feel like I need to add more classes because I feel so behind already due to annoying circumstances last year. First thing tomorrow morning, and I mean at the ass crack of dawn, I'm going to school to meet with a counselor. And then I'm off to the UCLA medical center to visit my cousin.

I'm going to try my best to use my day off as wisely as possible.
